Local Organizations
To an amateur racer, local races is where it is at. There are probably at least
ten local organizations in the province that hold races (usually with the support
of the CMRC). These organizations are made up of motorcycle enthusiasts who
donate their time because they love the sport. You can never say enough about these people
who donate land, time, and equipment to put together tracks. In Kamloops the
local organization is called the Greater Kamloops Motorcycle Association (GKMA).
They usually hold five or six races a year. This is a lot considering
there is only about fifteen people that do the work on the track. The land
for the track was donated by the Whispering Pines Indian Band. There are about ten people
that run the races. They do it because they love the sport. Without these volunteers nothing
would ever get done and motocross racing in Kamloops would be non existant. At
local races you can meet some of the nicest people in the sport and industry
All of the people at these races are there to have fun. I have been a member of four
local organizations in the past, one in the North, one in Kamloops, one in
the Lower Mainland and one in Northern Alberta and all of the organizations
have been run by volunteers. The quality of the tracks and competition have
been great. I can't say enough how much the volunteers are appreciated.
