Nothing gets my heart pounding like approaching a ninety degree funnel-like corner at near highway speeds with twenty bikes to my left and twenty bikes to my right. Each rider has the same thing in mind: making it to the corner first. There are many different things that make a motocross racer: Strength,Endurance,Concentration and Cajones. A fast racer must have all of these attributes. A physically srong rider with no endurance will have a blazing fast first two laps but then tire out and fall to the back of the pack. A rider with endurance but no stregnth will have a tough time getting out of tricky situations. If a rider cannot concentrate, he will begin to make mistakes. If a rider doesn't have the cajones, he won't be willing to do what it takes to win the race. Motocross is the second most physically demanding sport in the world, second to soccer. If you have ever ridden a few laps on a motocross bike you would know why. Alot of people think that all that is involed is climbling on and twisting the throttle. Not true. You are also responsible for a two hundred pound machine pushing forty horse power. That takes a lot of energy. People race in different classes based on skill level such as junior, intermediate and pro, into age classes such as veteran and youth and classes are also split into engine size such as 250cc, 125cc, 80cc and 50cc. A race is usually split into two heats, first place finnisher getting the most points, last place getting the least points. The rider with the most combined points wins the class. The track usually has a number of obsticles like double jumps, triple jumps, whoops, drops, hills banked corners flat corners, hills, different types of dirt.
